Everyone loves a bargain, and there’s no better bargain than FREEE!! My very first novel, Awaken, is now FREEEEE on Amazon, iTunes, and Kobo. This also applies for Amazon international (Canada, UK, etc).
Don’t know what the book’s about? Here’s the blurb:
Lucy Donovan was supposed to have a weekend of fun in the sun, celebrating her upcoming graduation from college. In a split second, everything changed. A drunk driver ended Lucy’s mortal life.
Lucy opens her eyes to a world she never imagined possible and a new destiny: as a Patronus, a guardian of spirits. Adjusting to her new role and abilities while negotiating this confusing realm will test her limits and push her further than she ever dreamed she would go. From wayward spirits who don’t want her help to soul stealing vampires, and even a stuck-up British royal, Lucy must brave them all to save one spirit she can’t bear to lose.
Further complicating her confusing life is an inexplicable yet growing connection she feels to a member of her team, Max, whose mysterious behavior leaves her both confused and intrigued.
Waking up dead was just the beginning of her problems. Lucy’s death is about to become the greatest adventure of her life.

Last week, the awesomesauce Heather Self, author of The One tagged me in this fun little post about what happens during my writing process. . Next week you can hop over to the blog of the amazing Cambria Herbert and learn about her process too!
What are you working on right now?
Like any crazy person, I am working on multiple stories right now. The voices in my head are pretty crowded, but if it gets you all more books to love sooner, it’ll be worth it! Currently, I’m working on my Earth Angel trilogy (for those of you who read Echo over a year ago, you must be relieved!) Book 2, Fate of an Earth Angel, will have a cover reveal soon too!!
I’m also working on two Young Adult contemporary stories– but more about those later!
What experiences have influenced you?
My experiences haven’t really influenced my plot lines, but have influenced characters. For example, the character of Jessica in Awaken is based on my little sister, Jessica (who also had cancer). And in Inhale, Exhale– the story is *very loosely* inspired by how my best friend met her now husband.
Why do you write what you do?
I write what pops in my brain. When I was in college, I attempted to write mysteries. I’m not sure if I just didn’t have the long term vision needed to build the suspense necessary for mysteries, but I never made it more than a few chapters. Once I graduated and started teaching, I tried again with Young Adult mysteries– and those I found it easier relating to Young Adult, the mystery elements still threw me.
Then I read the Sookie Stackhouse books. It was like a lightbulb going off. Paranormal! Of course! Now THIS I can write about! I started reading every paranormal romance I could get my hands on, and the creative muses in my mind began to rejoice. Awaken flowed out of me, and the rest is history!
How does your writing process work?
My writing process is all over the place. I write mostly on my laptop, but end up moving around the house throughout the day. I’ll start on the couch, then to the bed, then run off to Starbucks, I’ll head back to my plush chair, and then close the night in bed. Like I said, I’m all over the place! When I edit, however, I have to sit at my desktop and totally focus. It’s amazing how my body can handle the formality of sitting upright and still for hours while I edit, but crave the flexibility of movement when my creative juices are flowing.
One thing about my writing process that many find strange is that I can’t write with other noise distractions. No music, No TV. When I write, I need to listen to what my characters are saying, and I can’t hear them clearly if there is other stimuli competing for my attention.
(I also accept all donations of chocolate and coffee while I write!!)
So that’s me! I hope you enjoyed hearing about my writing process. Don’t forget to head over next week to hear all about Cambria! And if you missed Heather’s post– be sure to go back and give it a look! She’s an amazing writer!!
Today’s guest for my Breathe Deep and Eat Cupcakes series is none other than Samantha and Prince Alex from one of my favorite NA books this summer, Suddenly Royal by author Nichole Chase.
They each have their own version of what the perfect cupcake is, and need you to decide who’s right! You might even win a prize! (see bottom for details).
Haven’t read Suddenly Royal? Check it out:
Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.
Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women–especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.
While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.
The Yummy Royal Cupcake
Alex: There’s been a lot of talk about cake at the palace. I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but I’m getting married soon. *Flashes a panty dropping smile*
Samantha: We’re getting married soon. It’s not like you’re marrying yourself.
Alex: We’re getting married soon. And the one thing you’ve been the most excited about planning is the food, right?
Samantha: You mean it’s the only part of the planning your sister has given me a say.
Alex: True. *Little crinkles of amusement appear in the corners of his eyes* Back to the topic…
Alex: Yes. Cupcakes. Well, we’ve been trying hundreds of different types of cake, mixed with different icing.
Samantha: Do you remember the Lavender fiasco? *Shudder* With chocolate cake?
Alex: Or the orange cake with red wine icing?
Samantha: Don’t get me started.
Alex: Yes. There was a lot of bad cake.
Samantha: And good cake. But I don’t see why we can’t go with something simple. White cake, white icing.
Alex: Well, we do have some expectations to uphold. It is a royal wedding.
Sam: Royal, schmoyal.
Alex: Let’s not forget that we need to consider the people that have allergies and food preferences.
Samantha: Yep. *sigh* So, on top of cake, we’re going to have cupcakes in all sorts of flavors. That way people can pick and choose.
Alex: Exactly. But I have a feeling which cupcake will be the favorite.
Samantha: You want to make a bet?
Alex: I like this idea. Hm. If I win, you go topless for a week on our honeymoon.
Samantha: *Sputters* Topless?
Alex: If I let you put on any clothes at all.
Samantha: Fine. Then you have to go pant-less. Sans underwear, buddy.
Alex: Okay. What do you think will be the most popular cupcake?
Samantha: This is easy. The strawberry filled cupcake with pink champagne icing.
Alex: That’s your choice?
Samantha: Uh, yeah. It’s fantastic.
Alex: Hm, well, I hope you invested in sunscreen. *Flourishes a picture* Because THIS is going to win.
Samantha: Wha?! That’s not even a cupcake!
Alex: Yes it is. Just because the frosting is in the middle doesn’t change what it is.
Samantha: Oh yeah? And what is it?
Alex: It’s red velvet cake with a cream cheese icing. I call it The Royal Yummy Cupcake.
Samantha: Are you for real? The Royal Yummy Cupcake? Are there really little crowns?
Samantha: Pfft. I hope you don’t chap in the sea breeze because my cupcake is going to blow yours out of the water.
Alex: I guess we’ll see.
Samantha: You know, with our luck everyone will go for that one with the red wine icing.
Alex: I think we win either way. *Lets his eyes run over Samantha*
Samantha: I think you might be right. *Laughs* Thank God, we’re going to a private island.
Alex: Hold on to your tiara, my soon-to-be-princess.
So what do you guys think? Which cupcake is better? Comment with your choice and I’ll pick two winners to receive an ebook of Suddenly Royal!

On this week’s feature, I’m very happy to have an interview with Atticus from Nazarea Andrews’ new hit novel, This Love. Haven’t read it? Well, check it out:
THIS LOVE Synopsis:
She wants a summer job and a ride to a wedding.
He wants an assistant and a distraction from the mess his life had become.
They didn’t know they needed each other.
Avery Emili needs two grand. Two grand and a plane ticket–her sister is counting on her to get to Jamaica for her wedding. But the semester is over, and tutoring college freshman and high school students has dried up until the fall.
Atticus Grimes needs help–the messy split with his wife left the twenty-eight year old professor scrambling to keep things together as the semester winds down. Now he’s got a research grant he has to actually do research for and all he wants to do is drown himself in a tall bottle of bourbon.
When Avery sees his ad for an assistant, all she’s thinking is a summer job. But as they spend time together, in the office and out, both of them begin to realize something is there. Something that can’t happen–he’s a professor and she’s a student. And both of them have histories, pasts that won’t let go. Can two broken people pulled apart by expectations find a way to be whole?
Sounds awesome, right? It is! I think Attucus and Grant have a lot in common, and would get along smashingly! So what kind of cupcake does Atticus eat? Here’s what he had to say:
Picking a cupcake for Atticus was difficult. There’s sweet and simple, like vanilla with buttercream frosting. And maybe sprinkles.
But then, that’s too simple for Atti. He’s always full of surprises. Little bursts of surprises that catch you off guard and make you grin. Like funfetti.
There is the darker side to Atti. The slightly bitter, not altogether healthy side. Something like a dark chocolate cupcake with dark chocolate icing—the kind of rich deepness that isn’t too sweet.
But overall, none of those are Atti. What defines Atticus is his soft sweetness, mixed with a lightness and vest for life. A slight bitterness that comes with heartbreak and loss underscoring it all. A little bit summery, and a whole heck of a lot of yum. Atticus, my lovelies, is a Butter Rum Cupcake.
Mmmm… now I want cupcakes. That sounded delicious! Thank you so much, Nazarea for sharing Atticus with us. Trust me, folks, he’s just as yummy as his cupcake!! And stay tuned next week when my special guest is the oh so delish Hunter from Ella James’ bestseller, Selling Scarlett!!
About the Author:
Nazarea Andrews is an avid reader and tends to write the stories she wants to read. She loves chocolate and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids. She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, and overgrown dog.
